Trainees are to wear a tidy, fresh, clean pressed uniform and name badge at all times when visible on campus and when identifying as an Academy student in public. Relaxed casual clothes with name badge displayed are acceptable during off duty time.
Academy hospitality uniforms are standard throughout the hospitality industry. Samples of standard uniforms and recommended purchase site will be available on enrolment.
Laundry and ironing equipment is available on campus for daily maintenance of your own clothing.
Shower (Not always available on boats or in the wilderness) or at least top and tail and deodorant with minimal fragrance must be used as part of regular daily attention to personal cleanliness.
Standard work uniform:
- ACA Light Tan hospitality trousers or slacks (2 pair)
- Black belt with standard buckle
- Light Tan socks (7 pair)
- All black, comfortable, safe work non-slip shoes (No high heels)
- ACA Blue shirt, clean and fresh-pressed every day.
- Back of house roster ACA Blue polo shirt. (2+ shirts) name badge displayed.
- Front of house roster pressed shirt with collar & black bow tie (2+ shirts) name badge displayed.
- Warmth/personal underwear (several pairs of white under T-shirts) necessary for daily change and comfort.
- ACA style waterproof wind jacket
Fitness and Sports activities uniform (No Name badge required):
- Black shorts
- White T-shirt
- Shoes and socks appropriate for the activity
- Sensible swimwear
- At least 2 towels for sports
Formal dress uniform, always maintained in smartly polished condition:
- As for Front of house uniform
- ACA Style formal jacket, standard design with name badge displayed
Name Badge:
- A name badge is to be worn and displayed when identifying as a member of the Academy. The exceptions are:
- during water sports/recreation activities
- in private bed space
- The colour of your name badge identifies your level of experience and training
- Green = You are doing SACE or Cert.III training you are a "fledgeling"
- Bronze = Training at Cert.IV level OR doing one-semester work experience with a cert IV qualification - your wings are getting strong
- Silver = Beyond Cert IV, Training and have two or more semesters experience at Academy - you are almost an eagle.
- Gold = You have completed qualifications OR are gaining intern at Diploma level or Maritime Seatime - you are an eagle
- White = You are an Academy Master supervising students
ID Cards:
- All persons entering the ship or river campus including passengers, crew and Academy members must carry their personal student ID card at all times. It has a barcode that the ship's or campus database system can recognise.
- This ID recognition is required for Safety at Sea and on-campus purposes
- It is used on entry and departure from the ship or campus
- Can be used with the ship's or campus card payment system.
- People on the ship and on-campus are identified in three groups and have access to the Academy spaces according to their group. The ID card may be requested by security people at any time.
- The crew and casual campus workers have access to specific areas of the ship or on campus as required for their living and work areas only.
- Passengers or Campus visitors are restricted to passenger or visitor areas and may not enter certain areas of the ship including Academy deck or Private Campus spaces without permission or invitation from Principal, Academy Master or Ship's Officers.
- Academy Members have access to the following spaces on the ship
- Secure Academy accommodation decks or campus accommodation.
- Only Academy members are permitted in these spaces.
- (Security crew and ship's officers or campus staff may enter only when duty requires)
- Designated crew mess spaces when sharing crew services
- Work areas on the ship as required for their volunteer work experience
- All public passenger or visitor spaces. Students are not permitted to enter passenger cabins or accommodation except on cabin service roster duty with their training mentors.
